Yo! Like wassss da disss?!
It is I, Patty. I have returned from my 2 month vacation to my homelands (US and Indonesia). I'll tell ya a little bit about what I've been up to this summer. I spent the first week of May lounging on the beaches of Bali which was absolutely amazing. My days in Bali were filled with eating insanely good food, getting massages on the beach, and best of all...surfing! Needless to say, during the 3 days I spent surfing I probably managed to ride 5 waves and spent the rest of the time twisted up in them! But as painful as it is to wipe out on a big wave, I would still get up and try my luck on the next one cause when you finally connect with that perfect wave, the feeling's better than just giving birth to a 15 pound baby. I highly recommend surfing to everyone interested! When I tore myself from the beach, I found out that the rest of Bali was pretty amazing too. The Balinese people are naturally very soft-spoken and polite so they were all incredibly pleasant to be around. Since tourism is Bali's biggest income, there are endless amounts of restaurants and shops which was great for my mom cause she loves shopping. It was funny when we went out cause I, being the poor Indonesian speaker that I am, would usually speak to my parents in English when we went out shopping so it turned into a giant nationality guessing game for the locals. They kept asking if I was Malaysian, Singaporean, Thai, Cambodian. One shopowner even thought I was Filipino, isn't that sad? even my own kind think I'm a Filip. haha. But sadly, my parents and I only spent a mere 5 days in Bali, afterwards I headed over to Jakarta and spent some time with my family which was not nearly as exciting since there's no clean beach, but I did get to see my grandma and cousins which was good. Oh and I got to eat loads of martabak in Jakarta (woot to greasy Indo food!!). My whole Indonesian excursion ended in the beginning of June where I then headed back to my home in D.C.
I only stayed about 2 weeks in D.C. until I realized just how much I miss Victoria. So, on June 29th I flew over to Canuck-ville which was just in time to greet our new ceeder, Ferry from Indonesia, and to catch the Canada Day festivities! Oh do Canadians know how to have fun on their independence day! Our July 1st started off by watching Brazil LOSE to France..haha sorry Celso, Igor, Pei-Tien, and Jess I had to add that in there. If it helps, we were all rooting for Brazil, except Tanny and his roommate, you can beat them up when you see em (their address is 232 Feltham Rd...haha, just kidding). Anywho, we didn't want to continue our Canada Day feeling down after the game so a bunch of us headed downtown to Folkfest, a bigger version of our Global Village, which is being held by the inner harbour all week. We saw some uh..."interesting" ethnic dances that were performed by some talented PDs. The performances included a very hairy Morrocon dance, a scary but exciting belly dance (complete with a sword balanced on the dancer's head), a very convulsive hip hop routine, and to top it all off, a riveting scottish dance. We spent about 3 hours watching the dancers while eating some langos...mmmm langos. It was about dinner time when we left Folkfest so next stop on our Canada Day itinerary was: Golden Chopsticks! some of you may remember this cute and lovely chinese restaurant from Coastal Conference '06. Our meal was delicious, we had an eclectic choice of beef, veggies, chicken, and chicken balls (courtesty of Celso and Sang). After dinner, with our tummies full, we headed over to the inner harbour to catch the fireworks show. We found a patch of empty grass right in front of the Empress Hotel and sat with anticipation for the show. While waiting we saw about 2 people get arrested for fighting, smelled pot smoke everywhere, and encountered a couple of insanely drunk teenagers. Victorians never ceases amaze me. The fireworks finally started around 1030pm. It was a really exciting show, we pretty much saw 2 shows actually because there was a bonus X-rated showing of some other explosions courtesy of 2 Empress Hotel guests hahaha. After the short 15min. of "explosions", we headed home. All in all, a very awesome Canada Day. Canadians do know how to have a good time...
I hope everyone had a good Canada Day wherever they were. I'm sure the Canadian Party Spirit extends to every part of the world, even Singapore and Germany!
Well my time procrastinating in the library is over. Next party for Aiesec Victoria is July 7th and 8th for me and Celso's birthdays! Oh yeah...I'll be bustin out the Colt, especially since my Colt buddy's back from HK!
Ciao everyone, ache boch ashima boteche. Oh and remember: Vive la France!
