Dave is out and Aboot!

Hey everyone, I've made it to Singapore! I still can't believe I'm here (seriously ask Celine). Anyways I'm slowly getting orientated with the City. Last night I had two people pick me up from the airport (Celine our alumni, and Sherina from @Singapore) and we had some Roti Prata later that night. I have to give a thanks to singapore Airlines who kept my stomach happy with food service every 30 minutes and my mind occupied with their ondemand movie system.

It is truly an experience living in a city where everyone you meet talks like Heikal. Yah, soon . i will talk like him too...i can oreddy fee it la.

So far so good, as day one of my aiesec experience abroad as a trainee i can say that i am forever greatful with everyone has been involved with trainee integration. It's an invaluable gift you can give your trainee when everything seems new and strange.

You can follow my adventure on my blog:

More to come ! Miss you all lots!

True Love ?

truelove[1]

A quick Google Search on “I love AIESEC because’’ found a reply with 72,700 search results !

“I love being in AIESEC because this is where my friends are, this is where I learn and this way I can make a difference. The base of what I do everyday are my values, values which give me a broad perspective, which help me change myself and everything around me…
This is how we think in over 80 countries!”

To some extend, and we can never really clearly remember why and how we join AIESEC Victoria, somewhere, somehow the passion grew to something so huge its unexplainable. Indescribable, the people we meet along the way, the people that inspired us, we have inspired others and in turn be inspired by them. The opportunities given to the people who went on exchanges and came back so different and so changed.

I know of LCPs who never graduated from their desired major because being LCP is a full time job and getting into a specifc major needed a higher GAP. I realized from them later that AIESEC time was still worth it.

I know of people who spend their next month’s rent so they can go to conferences. I know of people who SOLD their car to get to conferences. I know of people who took semesters off school for AIESEC.

I know I love AIESEC, especially AIESEC Victoria because it has taught me so much, even as an alumni. Taking Dave’s TN made me realize how important an exchange is, I realized how important AIESECers are in their roles, I realize how much an AIESECer can lose sleep over a TN and I realize really that a love for AIESEC is indescribable, really, think about it, you cannot put a finger to the exact reason why you love AIESEC. Can you ?

Why do you love AIESEC Victoria ? ( Good Recruitment Tool ! ) Blog it down.. coz this will be read for YEARS to come !

“I joined AIESEC on October 2001 and I’m still here because I cannot find the emergency exit”

This is it.

So today was Dave's last day in town before he left Victoria for good. Well, two years. That's more like eternity!

Tanveer and I met him briefly in the office this afternoon after his gift hunting at Zellers, and we thought that was gonna be it. God knows what did Min do to convince him to come back to the office at 8PM! She wanted him to fill in some expectation forms... well anyways it was actually really great because he ended up giving us a ride home. Yay for Dave's car! :D

This is gonna be weird, him leaving as an intern, probably because we're just so used to having him around. I'm sure I'm gonna envy his adventure in Singapore eating durian and chicken rice, taking pictures in front of The Esplanade, talking Singlish and go clubbing at Zouk. Whoaa all of that is gonna be so much fun!

You'd notice that the past few entries have been all about Dave leaving. Why are we making such a big deal of it? Probably because he has impacted a lot of us in the LC, and we truly will miss him as a friend. If you look at the results presented below (referring to Celine's entry), they are all "realized" numbers in Q1, which means that they were all raised when Dave was still the LCP. He deserves the credit for those numbers.

To Dave: I hope everything goes fine with your visa application. Send us lots of updates during your internship in Singapore, don't forget us starving students who try to run your home LC!

Signing out,

Emil

A legacy is not what you leave behind but WHO

Over the past 2 years at AIESEC Victoria, I've been given nothing but faith and trust from its members. Everyday I walk into that office, attend a GA or a house party I've felt at home, really! My university career has been unforgettable since joining this organization; I've done so much more than I would've ever imagined.

So now it is my time (like many before me) to move on to bigger (and hopefully better) things in life. I don't mean to be a broken record but, honestly, everyone who has been involved with AIESEC Victoria rocks! You've changed my life!

When I became LCP, Chris Haynes was giving a speech about legacy. Now I forget the details of that speech (sorry man) but I'm sure it was special. The point is a legacy is not what you leave behind, but who. I never quite believed those Chris and Matt and all the other @Vic alumni when they said 'AIESEC Victoria is in good hands, ' but I truly believe that now. I do wish i could stick around and help out more! I know i'm missing out :D

From the bottom of my heart,

Thanx AIESEC Victoria

PAR-TAY!!!!

What party? It's a goodbye party! Whose goodbye party? It's Dave's Goodbye Party!
What: Dave’s Goodbye Party
Date: Saturday April 22
Time: 7:30PM onwards
Place: AIESEC House (1018 Mason St.)
Dave, the 2005-06 LCP, is going to Singapore next Thursday for his two year management internship. So this might really be our last, last chance to say goodbye to him, especially since a lot of you still have final exams next week.

Directions: The AIESEC House is just one block away from the corner of Pandora and Vancouver. You'll see a McDonalds there, and right across it you'll see St. Andrews Elementary School. The house is on Mason Street just right behind the school. If you need more directions you can call me at 884 4040 or Min at 882 0984.

Note: BYOB!! What might also be a good idea is to eat something first before you come.

So I'll see all of you there! Bring kleenex to wipe your tears when you say goodbye! ;)

Potluck!

Hello,

You are all cordially invited to a potluck at my place on this Wednesday night. I am housesitting for my friend's parents, and so I find myself alone in a big house, so come and party (carefully).

Address: 3810 Epsom Crescent

Directions: From Shelbourne and Cedar Hill X Rd. (where Fairway Market, Macdonalds, Petro Canada are) walk up Cedar Hill X Rd. in the opposite direction of UVic, so if you are heading up Shelbourne from dowtown, you would turn left on Cedar Hill X.

Follow Cedar Hill X Rd. until you get to the second set of traffic lights, these ones have a "new lights" sign before them since these are new traffic lights. So you get to this intersection of Cedar Hill X Rd. and Epsom Rd. and you turn left onto Epsom Rd. Follow Epsom Rd. until you get to Epsom Crescent and the house is the one right on the corner of Epsom Rd. and Epsom Crescent.

I would advise getting a bus to Shelbourne and Cedar Hill X Rd. and then walking to my place, but if you want to walk less, you can take the #25 bus which goes along Cedar Hill X Rd. (but is rather infrequent).

Okay, I was thinking we could start at 7pm ish, but drop by anytime before if you need a stove to prepare your food or whatever.

Hope to see y'all there.
Matty.

My LOUD Easter Sunday...

So, my relatives came over, about 6 of them, and so there was the usual running, screaming, eating, going out and doing whatever thing...the usual. Sunday evening, just after eating dinner, i was overcome with fatigue from all the noise and all the little kids..and the good food..so i just had a nap on the couch amist my energetic cousins.

Its a lot of work having family around...but it keeps you young!

Stay tuned: Dave is counting down the days until SINGAPORE!! W00t!

Our Easter Sunday

Oh Easter Sunday...a time to relax, do some homework, go to church...pfff...NOT!
Matty, Amanda, Min, Dani, and Patty had a lovely breakfast at John's Place with Michael who has just arrived back from his internship in Hong Kong!

(Yeah patty likes her peanut butter)

After our declicious breakfast at John's Place, it was off to the AIESEC House for some roof action. We climbed the roof, brought up Min's amazing guitar and sang songs! It was great to scare the passing pedestrians on the street with Patty's singing. But for some reason most of them looked up and just kept walking like they weren't shocked to see people on the roof. They were probably thinking, "what the f*ck are those kids doing on the roof....oh well, they must be on some drugs or something"

Patty on the fence and Matty on the roof

So As you can see, the roof singing didn't last long. Patty's ADD soon kicked in and we were off to playing some tag on the play ground across the street. Of course, climbing over the huge ass fence was not fun at all.

After tag, we were off to Amanda and Patty's beach house in Oak Bay. The ocean water was perfect on Sunday, a cool -343879degrees, so we decided to JUMP IN! wooot! It took a while to mentally prepare before the jump. Luckilly there was a huge crowd of spectators there to support us: kids, parents, even some dogs were there. They were there to mainly point and laugh as they witnessed stupid 20 year old college kids jump in the cold ass ocean haha...

So how did it feel in the water you ask?! Lets just say it was "breathtaking" aka: freakin freezing!! But it was definitely a rewarding experience. We found a good initiation activity for future newbies...mwuahhahah...

How satisfied was Matty with the Easter Day?!!!

He's damn satisfied!
